Markus Schlichting is CEO of the Swiss-German software company Karakun. A software engineer and architect at heart, he has spent most of his career building solutions for desktop, web and mobile, always aiming for software that works and delivers real value. Today his focus is on agentic software development and architecture, open source strategy, digital sovereignty and IT regulation. Markus cofounded the Hackergarten in Basel, a hands-on format where developers contribute to open source projects, and supports the communities in Basel and Dortmund. He speaks regularly at conferences and writes the column "Schlicht und einfach" for Inside IT.
