Dr. Mattis Hartwig bridges implementation, research, and management in the field of artificial intelligence and data science. He is a Senior Researcher at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), where he works on AI systems and their evaluation in real-world applications. In parallel, he serves as Managing Director and co-founder of singularIT GmbH, a company he has grown to more than 60 employees across two locations, guiding organizations in bringing AI initiatives from idea to production.

He holds a PhD in computer science with a focus on AI from the University of Lübeck and has published 25+ papers in data science, AI, and machine learning. On the practical side, he has led and delivered 100+ data science and AI projects spanning computer vision, classical machine learning, optimization, probabilistic models, and large language models. He also brings 4.5 years of strategy consulting experience from McKinsey, advising at the C-level on identifying, prioritizing, and scaling AI use cases.
