Megan M. Bettis is a supervisor/lecturer of Teacher Education working primarily with secondary science teacher candidates. Additionally, she serves as the director of the UC Davis Young Scholars Program, a residential research program for high school juniors and seniors. As a former classroom teacher, Megan’s focus is on educating the whole child and attending to their social emotional development as they cultivate a love for learning and science. Currently, Megan is pursuing her EdD in Leadership and Innovation and her research focuses on integrating SEL in out-of-school time programs to support student STEM identity development.

Integrating SEL & STEM - Challenges & Opportunities
This study explored how staff of a STEM-focused out-of-school time summer program understood and defined social emotional learning after implementing SEL activities for the first time. In this poster session, participants will engage in considering a programmatic approach to the integration of SEL and will learn from one programs’ experience as the program engages in cycles of program improvement.
