Mikel is a driven Fourth-year Ph.D. student in Computer Science at Howard University in Washington, D.C., specializing in AI applied to NLP. Her research centered on the interplay between Language, Computation, and AI impacts on Humans and Society, primarily through the lens of Explainable AI, Hate speech, and fake news detection.
Recognized as a 2023-2024 TMCF HBCU Apple Scholar and an AWS Research Fellow, Mikel brings both academic excellence and industry experience to their work. She has also served as a conference reviewer for Blacks in AI and Women in ML at NeurIPS.
