Death, Love & Slackbots

Time is money. We all hate doing repetitive tasks. We do our best to automate them, so we write scripts that we never share. And so, the vicious cycle continues. In this talk I’m going to introduce you to the next level of interactive automation - Slackbots. If we’re already using Slack on a day to day basis, why not have it automate our tasks and manage our workflows? Just communicate with your customized friendly bot and with a few clicks let the whole company also enjoy your automated capabilities!

In this talk we’ll dive into the concept of the Slackbot. I’ll present how we used Slackbots to produce our reports, how we improved it by getting feedback and taking actions in response, and how we managed to do it all with AWS Lambdas. By the end of this talk you’ll be able to build your own Slackbot and put your scripts to work.

The unexpected journey to data cleansing

Medical data is as messy as a teenager's room. It is often unstructured and can vary immensely. Conducting a simple analysis could become a burden: Where is the data I need? How do I make sure it’s accurate? Why are my queries taking so long?!
Designing the correct solutions to answer these questions in the optimal way could be painfully challenging, with very few success stories along the way.

In this talk, we’ll explore the data normalization issues we faced at Aidoc, and our take in defining and breaking down this complex problem. We’ll discuss some of the solutions we tested, from Materialized views to Airflow pipelines. Finally, we’ll discuss the key points in choosing the correct solution to answer these complex questions.
