Managing databases is one of the most difficult (confusing) things for infra team. There are too many things to learn about the database infrastructure and configuration. As a result, many people decide to go with default settings on VMs or use cloud-managed instead.
We often see companies have their own "magic scripts" (999+ lines of shell) handling most of the database ops tasks and as such, no standard way of managing database state and configuration. Furthermore, for highly regulated trading institutions like Trimegah Securities, going cloud isn't a silver bullet. We are required to put our application on-prem, which means data locality is an absolute must.
For us, all we wanted was to just run all of infrastructure components on one single platform, Kubernetes.
