Somu is a founding engineer at AGI Inc, where he builds Android AI agents. He has spent over ten years in Android, the last five at JioHotstar on the player team serving more than 100 million users. He shipped and later wound down an Android AI agent product that reached paying customers, and now maintains BuddyVoice, an open source Kotlin Multiplatform voice agent library. He co-founded UnitedBy.AI, a community of 120+ AI builders, and organizes GDG Chennai. He spoke at droidCon India 2025.

Sharing a Room Database Across Android & iOS with Kotlin Multiplatform
A hands-on walkthrough of migrating existing native Android (Jetpack Compose) and iOS (SwiftUI) apps to a shared data layer using Room KMP. Starting from the "Fruitties" sample app, we move its Room database into a shared Kotlin Multiplatform module so both platforms read and write the same persistence layer while keeping their native UIs.
We'll cover the full journey: switching to the BundledSQLiteDriver for cross-platform SQLite support, relocating DAOs and entities to commonMain with the Refactor → Move tooling, configuring KSP and the Room Gradle plugin for each platform target, wiring up RoomDatabaseConstructor with expect/actual, and creating an iOS-specific database builder. We then replace the iOS app's Core Data stack with Room — building entity wrappers, updating repositories and dependency injection, and swapping out @FetchRequest in SwiftUI.
Attendees will leave understanding how to share data-layer logic between Android and iOS without rewriting it twice, plus the practical gotchas (binary size, KSP target setup, ObjC naming) to watch for along the way.
Using AI Code Agents and MCPs to Supercharge Android & KMP Development
This talk dives into the new world of AI-powered coding for Android and KMP. See hands-on workflows with agents like Junie, Gemini, and real use of Multi-Component Programs (MCPs). Watch agents fix bugs, refactor code, and generate features for both Android and Kotlin Multiplatform. No fluff—real demos, time savings, and raw results. Clear breakdowns of where agents shine, where they stumble, and how to ship safer, faster app code every week. Perfect for devs who want practical tips, numbers, and edge-case stories.
Compose Multiplatform: What Works, What Breaks, and How to Actually Ship
An in-depth, real-world talk on Jetpack Compose and Compose Multiplatform: not just "hello world," but how to actually ship real apps across Android and iOS. We'll cover advanced UI, state, navigation, theming, what patterns work, what breaks, and when to use shared vs. platform views. I'll show code, hard-won lessons, UI bugs, and honest workarounds. This is for devs who want to move from "hello world" to actually deploying multiplatform UIs that scale and pass review.
