Actions
Hi! I’m Ned and this is my bio. I’m an IT professional with more than 20 years of experience in the field. I’ve been a helpdesk operator, systems administrator, cloud architect, and product manager. In my newest incarnation I am the Founder of Ned in the Cloud LLC. As a one-man-tech-juggernaut, I develop courses for Pluralsight, run a podcast for Packet Pushers, run a podcast for myself, and create original content for technology vendors.
I’ve been a Microsoft MVP since 2017 and a HashiCorp Ambassador since 2020.
In my career I’ve focused on three key pillars:
Embrace discomfort
Plan to fail
Be kind
On a personal note, I am father to three amazing children and married to a totally awesome lady. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, running, and drinking delicious fermented liquids.
Terraforming with GitHub Actions
If Terraform is the peanut butter for automating Azure, then GitHub Actions is the chocolate. Better together, you can use them to validate, plan, and apply new configurations when you check in new code or merge a branch to main. In this session, I will walk you through what GitHub Actions is, how it integrates with Terraform, and how you can automate your deployments in the most delightful way.
Terraform Turtles: Using Terraform to deploy Azure DevOps Pipelines to deploy Terraform
The first step in Infrastructure as Code is to write the code. The second step is to automate it! And why not set up the automation with more Infrastructure as Code? It's truly Terraform Turtles all the way down. In this session you'll learn how to effectively deploy an Azure DevOps pipeline using Terraform code. Then you'll see how to use Azure DevOps pipelines to validate, test, and deploy Terraform code. We'll cover some of the best practices for configuring the pipeline, and how to create a multi-step pipeline that handles pull requests and merges. By the end of the session you'll be ready to try your hand at using Terraform to deploy Pipelines to deploy Terraform.
Deploying HashiCorp Boundary on Azure
Remote access to your systems needs to be simple and secure. That is the goal of HashiCorp Boundary. In this session, I will walk through what HashiCorp Boundary is, the key components of the architecture, and the best practices for deployment in Microsoft Azure. We will look at how Boundary can scale across regions and provide connectivity based on identity and policy. By the end of the presentation you will understand what Boundary is, and be ready to deploy an instance in Azure to test for yourself.
