Exploring Asian American Neurodiversity: The Impacts of the Model Minority Myth in ASD Diagnosis
To further our understanding of what Asian American neurodiversity can look like in contemporary society, this study challenges the binaries created through the diagnostic process of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Through a systematic literature review, we explore the implications of the model minority myth on how the American mental health industry conceptualizes neurodiversity amongst Asian American students and how its diagnosis process can exclude Asian American access to mental health resources and care.
