Every long career has a turning point. For Nicole Metz, it came when she moved from selling to teaching others how to succeed.
She began her career at Xerox Corporation as a Major Account Manager in Federal Sales, managing a territory, customer relationships, and a sales quota. The experience gave her an early understanding of performance: success depends not only on talent, but on whether people receive the right training before they are expected to deliver results.
That insight led Nicole Metz into Xerox's training organization as a Sales Training Specialist. She trained hundreds of newly hired sales representatives in fundamental and advanced selling skills, product knowledge, professional services selling, and marketing principles. Certified to teach the company's full portfolio of sales training courses, she consistently achieved strong student satisfaction results and worked alongside some of Xerox's highest-performing sales professionals. By her own account, she was also among the youngest instructors selected for the role.
During this period, she earned President's Club recognition for sales performance—an accomplishment that strengthened her credibility as an instructor. Having carried a quota herself allowed her to teach from practical experience rather than theory alone.
Nicole Metz's next promotion expanded her influence. As Sales Training Program Manager, she shifted from developing sales representatives to developing the managers responsible for training them. She instructed incoming training managers in Xerox's buyer-focused selling methodology, coaching techniques, performance feedback, and documenting employee development plans. She also served on the Xerox People Development Board, supporting staff sourcing and professional development across the sales and training organization, while designing and delivering off-site training programs.
The progression from salesperson to trainer to developer of trainers became the foundation of her broader career in human resources and talent management.
She went on to hold human resources leadership positions at Nextel Communications and ACTERNA Corporation before spending approximately eight years at Science Applications International Corporation. There, she served as Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and later as Director of Talent Development and Management. She subsequently became Senior Director of Talent Management for the Intelligence Group at TASC Corporation and has also operated her own consulting practice.
Throughout these roles, Nicole Metz's work continued to center on a principle established early in her career: organizations perform better when people are deliberately prepared, developed, and supported to succeed.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Business Administration from Marymount University, graduating with honors. She has also been a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Association for Talent Development.
Her career reflects a consistent philosophy about professional development. People rarely become exceptional simply by being corrected after something goes wrong. Sustainable performance begins earlier—with thoughtful instruction, practical preparation, meaningful coaching, and development that gives people the capability and confidence to perform when it matters most.
