Nigel is a software engineer working in IBM's 'Open Quantum' team, part of a larger Open Tech & Advocacy team. He works alongside colleagues in research to promote and support IBM's Quantum technologies. Recently he led creation of a free course for IBM's quantum curriculum, addressing the risks of quantum algorithms to today's encryption, and is working on several opensource projects proposing changes to make mitigation of such threats easier.

Previously he was cofounder & maintainer of the Egeria project (LF AI & Data) collaborating with others on delivering an open, extensible, metadata & governance platform. He introduced and developed use of Kubernetes, Helm Charts, & operators into the project.
