Leveraging Kubernetes to build a better Cloud Native Development Experience
Transitioning from development to production is always challenging. There's that underlying fear of overlooking something crucial, such as misconfigurations or misspelled environment variables, which can lead to broken systems. Tools like Kind and Minikube fall short of fully replicating production, leaving developers to rely on CI/CD pipelines or staging environments to verify their code before pushing it to production. These processes can be time-consuming, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. Waiting even a few minutes to test code can be frustrating for developers and hinder productivity.
Through the utilization of Kubernetes for creating development environments, developers can closely replicate production configurations and proactively tackle errors in the initial stages of development. This talk will walk you through how Kubernetes can be harnessed to empower development environments using an open-source project: Okteto CLI.
Attendees will gain insights into the benefits of Kubernetes-based development environments and witness a live demo on setting them up using Kubernetes clusters. By the end of the session, participants will have a clear understanding of how Kubernetes can enhance development workflows, minimize errors, and elevate software quality.
Extending Argo CD CLI functionality with Plugin Support: Build your Custom Plugins now!
The Argo CD CLI has been a cornerstone for managing GitOps workflows, but until now, it lacked support for extending its capabilities through plugins. This talk introduces plugin support to the ArgoCD CLI, enabling users to create custom plugins and use them as subcommands, extending the ArgoCD CLI functionality like kubectl.
In this talk, we’ll demonstrate the new plugin system’s real-world application by showcasing a plugin we developed: mta (Migrate to Argo CD). This plugin bridges the gap between Flux and Argo CD by exporting Flux components into Argo CD-compatible Custom Resources (CRs), simplifying migrations from Flux to Argo CD.
From Classroom to Cluster: Embracing Kubernetes as a Student and Contributing to its Development
Oftentimes, Students who try to get involved within the Kubernetes Ecosystem are shed by the overwhelming nature of the community. With several SIGs working on different projects and meetings happening around, it becomes extremely difficult to find your way to get involved in the project. As the ecosystem grows, it is essential to have a sustainable framework that streamlines the process of getting more students involved and building future leaders. Students often grapple with managing their academic workload while pursuing their passion for contributing and learning Kubernetes.
In this panel talk, we will be interacting with some of the greatest contributors to the community who started their way as Students. This will bring light to the challenges each one of us goes through as students with minimal information and a solution to it. A key motivation for this panel discussion is to emphasize on building the next generation of cloud-native.
