Okafor Colette Ogechukwu is a Master’s students in Integrated Petroleum Exploration and Evaluation studies (Geology Option) at the NNPC/RENAISSANCE’S centre of Excellence in Geolscience and Petroleum Engineering, University of Benin.
Colette holds her undergraduate degrees in Geology from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, with a second class upper(Hons). Ever since she was a little child, she have been fascinated by the natural wonders of the globe, from the construction of vast mountain ranges to the immovable force of the Earth as shown in the tectonic activity that causes them. Colette’s early career path started when she was the first female President of Society of Petroleum Engineers(SPE) where she founded an organization 'Catch Them Young,' through which several schools were reached, educating students on the importance of Geoscience and encouraging the underprivileged by sponsoring their educational endeavors with the assistance of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International. As a result of that, her university was recognized as one of Nigeria's top Outstanding Schools in 2018.
She was also the vice president of NMGS in her university. She has research works on the 'Geology and Geotechnical Properties of Soil' in Ukpo and environs, in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria and Petrographic characterization of rocks around Shinkitau, Kano State,' and a minor project "Assessment of Groundwater Physio-Chemical characteristics in Rumuola Rivers State, Nigeria." all yet to be published. In 2021, she joined Port Harcourt Water cooperation, Port Harcourt where she worked as Graduate trainee as a Geologist. She worked with the company for a year before joining Degeconek in 2022 as a Geoscientist, where she specializes in seismic interpretation, generation of property maps and seismic attributes, Sequence stratigraphy, Petrophysical analysis using powerlog and report writing for field developments. Her hobbies includes Researching, Travelling and vlogging.
She is an active member of NAPE, SPE, and NMGS where she served as the P.A to the Admin secretary of NMGS. She is also a volunteer at Slum2School, a driven NGO organization which provides education to children living in slums and remote communities across Africa.
She has always believe in this quotes that ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others’ by Mahatma Ghandi.
Colette is a hardworking, high spirited, enthuastic, self-confidence, creative and to cap it all, always open to new experience.
