The New Gatekeepers: How Content Moderators Shape What We See in the Digital Age

Every minute, we generate 16 million tweets, 1 million hours of streaming video, and 66,000 Instagram photos. With 5 billion people online creating unprecedented volumes of user-generated content, users globally now spend as much time consuming user-created videos as traditional TV. This explosion of content has created an invisible army of decision-makers wielding extraordinary power.

Content moderation PMs are quietly making product decisions that directly shape what billions see, buy, and believe: which dating profiles you can swipe, to what job listings appear, which products you can purchase, and what news reaches your feed. These are the new gatekeepers of acceptable human expression, defining the boundaries of free speech, commerce, and connection at global scale.

In this session, you'll learn strategic frameworks for wielding this influence thoughtfully, how to navigate the "Potter Stewart problem" across cultures, why precision vs. recall trade-offs determine societal impact, and how to position content moderation as strategic leadership.
