I have been working with databases for about 18 years, started with SQL Server 2000. Nowadays, my experience is much broader to various other technologies, both relational and NoSQL databases, different programming languages, etc. I'm focusing on high availability and disaster recovery solutions, ETL, troubleshooting and performance tuning, developing data intensive services and products, processing terabytes of data each day. I’m a regular speaker at SQL Server user group meetings, SQLSaturday events and other conferences. An owner of MCM certification and MVP award on SQL Server (2013-2019).

The Art of Seamless Data Migration: Strategies, Pitfalls, and Solutions

Let's dive into the often-overlooked complexities of data migration, shedding light on the real-world problems that professionals like you and I face. Data migration isn't just about moving data from A to B; it's a journey filled with unexpected challenges and requires innovative solutions. From my personal experience, I've encountered numerous obstacles, learning crucial lessons at every turn. We'll explore effective strategies for smooth data transfers, identify common issues that may arise, and discuss practical solutions to overcome them. This will offer you a clearer understanding of potential pitfalls and how to navigate them successfully. This session is designed for those looking to enhance their data migration skills and avoid common mistakes in their next migration project.

Inside the Query Engine: Comparing PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server

In this session, we'll delve deep into the world of query optimizers, contrasting their performance across three of the world's leading RDBMS: PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server. These database systems, boasting a rich history and widespread adoption by enterprises both on-premises and in the cloud, each bring unique strengths and intricacies to the table. If you're evaluating which database to adopt for your upcoming projects, or simply curious about the inner workings and unexpected outcomes of query optimization, this is a must-attend. Expect a blend of in-depth insights, engaging discussions, and surprising results!

Lessons learned from refactoring multi terabyte databases for the past 10 years

In this presentation, I will delve into the intricacies of database refactoring, with an emphasis on my personal experience. I will cover the importance of refactoring in maintaining the performance and scalability of databases, as well as various challenges I have encountered and the solutions I've implemented while working with databases of tens and hundreds of terabytes in size. I will also discuss the best practices and tools that I have found to be the most effective in this process. Examples will be based on SQL Server, PostgreSQL, HBase and Apache Cassandra/ScyllaDB background.
