Dr. Peter Marchetto is the Research Engineer and Instrumentation Scientist at FieldKit, dealing with environmental measurements from finding the measurand in the environmental system all the way through the signal chain to getting environmental data online and interpreted. He also volunteers as lead engineer at Sunflower City, a nonprofit environmental organization focused on proving out nature-based solutions to flooding issues, where he is responsible for sensor network hardware and measurement instrumentation. He was previously a professor in the Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering department at the University of Minnesota, co-director of that department’s Instrumentation and Robotics Group, and lead designer of the department’s makerspace. His graduate and postdoctoral work focused on creating instrumentation for both the Bioacoustics Research Program and the Soil and Water Lab at Cornell University. He is the chair of the Standards and Practices Subcommittee of the Distributed Sensing Technical Committee of the American Geophysical Union, and has been a member of IEEE, AES, ASA, AGU, and APS, as well as a nominated member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.
