Postgres and DataFusion — High-Performance Analytics in Postgres
In this session, I will discuss how we created the Postgres extension pg_analytics, which enables high-performance analytics in Postgres. We utilize industry standards like Apache Arrow and Apache Parquet for columnar storage, and Apache DataFusion for vectorized processing, using Postgres hooks and other core Postgres internals to integrate the two systems seamlessly. This enables pg_analytics to achieve ClickHouse-level performance for analytical queries and can be installed within any self-hosted Postgres.
The session will start with a brief motivation for the project before diving into the technical details of the extension. It will conclude by highlighting how far Postgres has come and showcase pg_analytics as an example of what can be accomplished with Postgres extensions.
