Envoy AI Gateway 101: Rethinking Traffic for AI Applications
Envoy was designed for traffic where requests are short-lived, predictable, and roughly equal in cost. AI inference breaks those assumptions. One request may stream for minutes, generate thousands of tokens, and consume far more compute than the one beside it.
I'll explain why these differences led to Envoy AI Gateway and how it extends Envoy Gateway for AI workloads. Using a single inference request, we'll see how AI-specific concepts like token-aware rate limiting, AIGatewayRoute, and AIServiceBackend fit into the familiar Envoy model.
Rather than covering every feature, this session focuses on building the mental model you'll need before configuring your first AI gateway. If you already understand Envoy but are new to serving LLMs, you'll leave knowing which networking instincts still apply, and which ones don't.
Beyond Borders: How Community Spirit Unites Cloud Native Enthusiasts Worldwide
Cloud native communities do not start with budgets, sponsors, perfect structures, or even local proximity. Very often, they start with people talking to each other, sharing energy, opening doors, and deciding that something should exist.
This session tells the story of how community collaboration can happen across borders, time zones, cultures, and continents. From Latin America to Nigeria, through WhatsApp conversations, GitLab issues, remote mentoring, and direct support for emerging Cloud Native Community Groups, we worked together to help local communities take shape, organize themselves, and move from intention to action.
The goal is not to present one person as the center of the story. The opposite is true. The real message is that community becomes powerful when it is not dependent on one individual, one geography, or one official structure. A strong community is built when people help each other create the conditions for others to lead.
We will explore what worked: trust, availability, practical collaboration, lightweight coordination, public visibility, and shared purpose. We will also talk honestly about what is difficult: limited time, unpaid community work, professional responsibilities, burnout risk, and the need to balance passion with real-life constraints.
This session connects with the spirit of my previous KCD Nigeria talk about bridging continents between Latin America and Africa, but moves the conversation further: from inspiration to practice. How do we actually help communities grow? How do we support local leaders without replacing them? How do we create collaboration that survives beyond one event, one mentor, or one enthusiastic moment?
Attendees will leave with practical ideas for building stronger local tech communities, collaborating internationally, supporting open source ecosystems, and creating community momentum that belongs to everyone.
