Relius Johnson, Ph.D. is currently the Director of New Maverick Orientation and formerly served as the Assistant Director of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington. Relius strives to engages as an agent of positive social change by acknowledging, activating, and self-interrogating the complexities of one’s identities, experiences, privileges, and ideologies. Relius’ motto is to use your past to influence a better future.

Young, Black and Burnout
Young, Black, and Burnt Out, participants will be given the opportunity to discuss their current experiences within their work environment, along with the impact that it has had on their professional development and personal well-being. The facilitators will focus on the intersectionality of Black professionals and the theoretical framework resiliency and retention to develop practical tools, steps, and resources to remain empowered on continuing the WHY in what they do Student Affairs.
Changing the system: Making Progress while striving for perfection
In our profession we want to ensure that we are given the best experiences, programming and so much more. In this session three professional walk you through their experiences of creating a culture shift in regard to the Orientation experiences and processes at their respective institutions. The professionals will talk about implementation of large processes, campus collaboration, team changes, and advocating in a climate of compliancy and stagnation.
