Roberto has been passionate about computing since the age of 9. In college he got into data and databases and he got started on PostgreSQL 6. He enjoyed systems, services and databases so much that he worked as DevOps Engineer, DBA, manager and eventually became a Senior Data Systems Manager and then a Principal Solutions Architect.

Besides being all-in-one tech support, his family says he's a nice guy who's always willing to help others (maybe because of the free IT support he provides?). He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Computer Science, and has 30+ years experience in technology and databases.

Originally from Brazil, he loves tinkering with raspberry pis and sensors, snowboarding, photography, Austrian economics, scouting, and traveling.

Real Enterprise-grade PostgreSQL backups with pgBackRest

pgBackrest is an open source solution for reliable PostgreSQL backup and restore. It scales to large databases and is optimized for postgresql-specific requirements to properly handle scenarios that would otherwise cause data corruption.

It is flexible and provides many options. In this talk we will provide a overview of pgBackRest, its components and functioning. We will also cover questions and scenarios that are often overlooked or less known.

Those attending this talk will leave with:
- An understanding of importance of backups and how they work with PostgreSQL
- An overview of pgBackRest and how it works
- Answers to burning questions such as "Can you copy repo from prod and restore in dev/staging?", "Can a repository be comprised of multiple file systems?" and many others

Alice, this is Bob: A Deep Dive into Database Security with PostgreSQL

Databases play a crucial role in storing and managing sensitive information. This talk will explore the vital aspects of securing databases, with a specific focus on PostgreSQL, one of the top open source databases in use at enterprises, known for its robust features and extensibility.

In this talk you will learn how to help your company avoid being on one of those data leaks by learning the essential aspects of database security and threat vectors affecting them.

I will cover the experience gathered by helping companies large and small with their PostgreSQL deployments in bare metal, virtual machines, containers and Kubernetes, with specific sensitive points about each of those deployment options.

This talk should be useful for database/infrastructure administrators and application developers alike.
