Roland is an avid technologist with a passion for all things that go “beep”. Prior to Discover, Roland ran a successful SaaS startup for 7 years, where he honed his entrepreneurial mindset, learned to wear many ''hats'', and broke many things while learning how to run a small Internet-based business in the late 90s amidst the first ''dot com'' boom. Roland’s 18 year Discover learning journey took him through various roles within Infrastructure Services. From Internet Hosting, Middleware and Application Services Departments, chartering a new Cloud Solutions area, through developing a new organizational model in Chapter Engineering. While in Cloud Solutions, he experimented with agile ways of working (new to infrastructure at the time), and built and ran PCF, AWS, non-relational data and IaaS products. Most recently, he helped establish a Chapter Engineering organization, its operational model and supporting engineering principles, along with methods to develop infrastructure engineers in their craft. Roland is passionate about engineering excellence, often constructively dissatisfied and finding new ways to deliver better technology solutions. He especially enjoys cultivating engineering talent and developing new leaders.
