Dr. Rosy Nigro is currently the Italian instructor at Mississippi State University, MS. She has overseen the Italian Program, which she has founded, since 2008.
A native Italian from Catania, she holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Sociology, a Laurea in Political Sciences from the Universita’ di Catania, and a Master’s in Italian from the Università di Pisa. After graduating with a Laurea in Political Sciences and thanks to several scholarships from the Universita’ di Catania, Dr. Nigro moved to the USA in 1999 as an exchange graduate student. Here, at Mississippi State University, she was able to build her educational career by earning a Master’s and Ph.D. in Sociology. After few years of teaching Sociology, Dr. Nigro then had the chance to successfully fill the gap of teaching Italian language at the then Department of Foreign Languages at Mississippi State. From 2008 Dr. Nigro has built the entire Italian program from scratch which today offers a full minor in the language including advanced and cultural Italian classes. Dr. Nigro also is currently working on the goal to enhance the opportunity to make Italian one of the foreign languages taught in all high schools in the state of Mississippi.
