From Utopia to Reality: The Hidden Challenges of Event-Driven Architecture

Working with event-driven microservices instead of a SOAP/REST monolith is the dream of many developers, including myself. Everything is asynchronous, decoupled, and scalable. What’s not to love? Well, a year ago, my dream came true. Finally, I could work on enterprise-scale messaging, microservices, NoSQL, IaC, and all in the cloud, of course.

Unfortunately, my dream slowly turned into a nightmare.

Event-driven architecture is like a dragon: immensely powerful but hard to tame. In this session, we look past its utopian ideas and explore its rugged reality.

We discuss the challenges I personally had to face when adapting to EDA and how I solved them. It’s about the hard parts you hope you never encounter but inevitably will when working in EDA systems: out-of-order messages, scheduling, versioning, and interacting with legacy systems.

After this session, you will be much better prepared than I was—prepared to work with event-driven architecture. Prepared to tame the dragon!

Dokter, mijn agent doet raar.

Doctor, my agent keeps acting up

Great, all that agentic AI, but for me it does not really work. In demos there seems to be nothing agents cannot do, but in day to day practice they often disappoint. Sometimes they do exactly what you expect, then suddenly they lose the plot or behave slightly differently on every run. We are being flooded with AI agents with ailments. A true AI-pidemic. So, it's high time for treatments!

In this no hype and hands on session, led by Dr. Deter Ministic, we visit a series of sick patients. We investigate failing agents, make a diagnosis, and treat the problems with practical solutions from real world experience.

Expect a session full of concrete examples and recognizable patterns that you can apply directly in your own agent files. The goal is simple: help agents that are stuck at eighty percent correctness move toward reliable and predictable results.

After attending this interactive session:

• You better understand how agents actually work
• You have a practical checklist for a solid agent file
• You can recognize and diagnose common agent ailments
• You have a well stocked toolbox with concrete tips to make agents do what you expect

Are you a developer who wants to build predictable, correct, and practically usable AI solutions, then this session by Dr. Deter is for you.
