Born November 8, 2002, in Rochester, New York, Ryan Gustin has always been passionate about engineering and positively impacting his community. From his childhood in Penfield, New York, to his current studies in Civil Engineering at Penn State, his journey has been shaped by his academic pursuits, leadership roles, and deep commitment to service.

Ryan's educational journey began at Plank Road North Elementary in Webster, New York, where he attended from first to fifth grade. During these years, he first became interested in technology, mainly by participating in Lego robotics. This early exposure to engineering helped cultivate his curiosity for problem-solving and technical design. Along with his interest in robotics, he was also active in sports such as football, basketball, and baseball, where he developed strong teamwork and leadership skills that would later support his academic and professional endeavors.

Ryan continued his education at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, where he embraced the school's mission of becoming a "man for others." His leadership and technical skills were recognized when he was selected as the team lead for the McQuaid IgKnighters Robotics Team. In this role, he helped design and build the robot’s climbing mechanism, which helped the team win the “Excellence in Engineering” award. He also worked with the school’s CNC Mill, creating precise parts for their robot using materials like aluminum and steel. This hands-on experience deepened his understanding of engineering principles and gave him practical experience in advanced manufacturing.

In addition to his academic achievements, Ryan has always been committed to community service. He volunteered at the House of Mercy Homeless Shelter, where he helped distribute holiday gifts to those in need. He also participated in the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry, supporting individuals with limited family connections. His work at Maplewood Nursing Home, where he dedicated over 170 hours to caring for elderly residents, further exemplified his dedication to giving back. His commitment to service was recognized with the St.

Ignatius Loyola Award for exceeding 200 service hours in middle school.
Beyond his volunteer work, Ryan has gained valuable professional experience. He worked in various roles at Oak Hill Country Club, including assisting with golf carts, the bag room, and the driving range. He also contributed to the 2023 PGA Championship, where he gained insight into large-scale event logistics. His experience at Hedges Nine Mile Point Restaurant also helped him refine his customer service and multitasking skills.

Ryan Gustin, New York, studies Civil Engineering at Penn State and remains dedicated to his academic and professional goals. He is actively involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Penn State Formula Racing, where he applies his knowledge to real-world engineering projects. Ryan Gustin New York looks forward to graduating in May 2025 and pursuing a career in civil engineering, focusing on projects that improve infrastructure and the quality of life for communities.
