Resilient by Design
Failure is always an option. A zone can go offline, a dependency can slow down, or a deployment can break a healthy service. Resilience starts before the architecture diagram. You need to know which user journeys must keep working, how much disruption the business can accept, and how the system should recover.
This talk follows those decisions through architecture, application code, deployment, and operations. Using Azure examples, we will cover availability zones and multi-region design, dependency isolation, graceful degradation, timeouts and retries, observability, safe deployments, and recovery testing. The goal is to understand where failure can spread and choose controls that reduce its impact.
Architects, developers, and platform engineers will leave with a set of questions they can use to review a new design or a workload already running in production. Those questions help turn resilience from a list of Azure features into a plan for reducing downtime and data loss.
**Takeaways:**
- Turn SLOs, error budgets, and recovery targets into architecture decisions.
- Contain failures through redundancy, dependency isolation, and graceful degradation.
- Test recovery with load tests, chaos experiments, game days, and disaster recovery drills.
