But I gave you EVERYTHING, why are you leaving me?

Business owners & leaders, team leaders, managers, HR professionals; any business going through change - which is every business in this fast changing world. We're living in extraordinary times, most of us living in fear of what the future holds.

Lots of businesses invest in the latest technologies and processes, and often expect that their teams are going to uniformly learn and use these new skills as replacements, often not additions to their existing expertise. Businesses shout about the investment made is for their people or their customer's greater good/betterment.

However, many businesses don't understand what those changes to technology or processes, no matter how positive - what those changes are REALLY asking their people to give up. In terms of their identity, their strengths, expertise, or relevance. Businesses expect their people to 'receive' the new expertise, often from above or vendor driven. The outcome is either quiet quitting, or their people shutting down and disengaging. No dramatics, no walk-outs, no loud complaining. People just stop volunteering, stop asking questions, stop bringing ideas.

Businesses often don't stop to think about what the team HEARD about the change. They might have heard "I'm not enough anymore, my expertise might not be relevant today."

This is because of status threat. Our brains treat a status threat the exact same way as a physical threat: a flood of cortisol, narrowing of attention and an automatic move toward self-protection.

I'd like to share my learnings; leading change over many years alongside my accredited neuroscience informed approach.
How to really approach programs of change for the humans involved.
How to frame the new skill sets, how teams can co-design their future.
How to stop uncertainty festering into fear.
How to reduce cortisol, instead produce endorphins through recognition, belonging and sharing wins.

Business ambition will never be truly realised when our human nervous systems are in self-protection mode.
