Using Technology to Lessen "Rushing Woman Syndrome"

Women in technology are often navigating more than meetings, messages, and deadlines. Many are also carrying the invisible load of coordination, caregiving, planning, and emotional labor both at work and at home. Add constant notifications, endless context switching, and the pressure to always be available, and the result is what I call “Rushing Woman Syndrome.”

In this special topic session, Joy Apple takes a practical and personal look at how everyday technology can either intensify that rush or help lessen it. Using tools from Microsoft 365 like Outlook, Teams, and Copilot, along with a few unexpected helpers, this session explores how to reduce mental clutter, protect personal time, and use technology in ways that support a more sustainable life.

This is not a session about doing more. It is about using the tools we already have with greater intention so we can lower friction, create healthier boundaries, and stop letting digital overload run the show.

You’ll leave with ideas to:
✅ Use Microsoft 365 tools more intentionally to reduce mental overload
✅ Create healthier boundaries around communication, availability, and personal time
✅ Apply practical tech habits that support wellbeing at work and beyond
