Achieving Design Excellence in Open-Source Software
In this talk, Martin explores the challenges of achieving high design standards in open-source software—projects often led by developers, characterized by flat hierarchies, and reliant on volunteers. Design thinking is frequently fragmented, with limited focus on the broader user experience. He will demonstrate how even well-intentioned plans can unintentionally create user confusion, using real-world user testing examples.
Martin will also outline practical strategies for fostering a design-driven culture, including user testing, public charters, and contribution standards—helping open-source communities adopt modern design thinking effectively.
