Usability of EnergyPoints™ to Guide Acupressure Use for Fatigue and Sleep Disturbances

In this late-breaking poster session, our multidisciplinary team (acupuncture, nursing, psychology, integrative health) describes results of a usability study evaluating the use of a new mHealth app. EnergyPoints™ teaches and guides people living with cancer to implement daily acupressure to self-manage their symptoms at home. Using an integrated agile, user-centered design, 20 people with cancer participated in a think-aloud session onboarding and using the app to locate acupoints and then used the app to self-administer acupressure at home (twice daily for 1 week) while continuously wearing a fitness tracker synched with the app. The app measures self-report of symptoms daily and with weekly standardized PROMIS© measures. Findings support usability and guided improvements to the app based on user-experience. Research reported in this presentation was supported by the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number R43CA261446 (Beck, SL, PI).
