Building a Thriving Agile Community of Practice: A People-Centered Approach to Change

In 2018, Maybank began its Agile journey with a few sectors experimenting with Agile ways of working independently. By 2022, the organization took a more structured approach, integrating Agile into its 12 Strategic Programs under the M25 corporate strategy. Members of these programs received customized Agile training and were supported by Agile coaches to guide their transformation.

Despite these efforts, embedding an Agile culture across the organization remained a significant challenge. Participation in Agile initiatives was largely top-down driven, and traditional, siloed ways of working persisted, making cross-functional collaboration and dependency management difficult.

To address these challenges, Maybank established its Agile Community of Practice (CoP) as a grassroots initiative to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and cultural transformation. Starting with just 10 members, the CoP has since grown into a thriving community of over 400 active participants, bridging gaps across the organization and embedding Agile values at every level.

This session will take you through Maybank’s journey of creating and sustaining the CoP, sharing practical strategies to overcome resistance, engage participants, and build a people-centered culture. Attendees will gain actionable insights into how to leverage CoPs to drive long-term Agile transformation and organizational change.
