Building Influence & Credibility as an HR Trusted Advisor

HR professionals are expected to be strategic partners, yet most are buried in tactical work and pulled into decisions far too late. This session shows small HR departments or HR Departments of One how to break out of the “policy police” trap and step into true strategic influence using the Trusted Advisor Framework.

Grounded in real scenarios and straightforward examples, the session teaches participants how to shift everyday HR conversations from “Can you write them up?” to “What outcome do you actually want?” and how to position themselves as thinking partners, not order takers. Attendees learn why HR often struggles with executive trust, how to communicate in ways leaders respond to and how to build credibility without posturing or over-explaining.

The format includes short teaching segments, practical examples and group discussion. Participants walk away with specific language shifts, mindset tools and repeatable strategies they can use immediately to increase their influence, guide better decisions and elevate HR’s impact inside their organization.
