Ready, Steady, Sprint - Agile in Education for diversity and inclusion

Scrum enhances learning, team working and inclusion in the way that every single student is committed to the Sprint goal through a welcoming environment and the habits that create it. This means making learning accessible to all students providing a whole range of options to make them communicate and express themselves.

I came across one of the most heart-warming experiences teaching English as a Foreign Language in Italy when I facilitated, as a Certified Scrum Master, my first Review and Retrospective with a non-verbal student who relied on the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies to interact with her team and with me as well.

Good to know that Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) describes multiple ways to communicate that can supplement or compensate (either temporarily or permanently) for the impairment and disability patterns of individuals with severe expressive communication disorders. (https://www.asha.org/njc/aac/)

I'll be telling you the story of A., 12 years old, who performed through AAC an extraordinary learning task, involving the whole team she belonged to, and shared with us all what she thought about it since she showed us what she liked and what has been a BIG NO for her.

Thank you Scrum for giving us the chance to embrace inclusion as we never did before.
