One Code, Two Challenges: Multiplatform Accessibility with React
React Native allows us to develop a single codebase that runs not only on the web but also on mobile platforms, creating a native experience using JavaScript.
React Native simply brings the React programming paradigm to platforms like Android and iOS, but can we say the same when it comes to accessibility?
The way we use, inspect, and test accessibility in native applications is very different from web applications (for example, using inspectors, emulators, and screen readers).
While in React we rely on native HTML semantic elements like button or header, in React Native we need to use specific components and additional properties to achieve accessible behaviors.
In this talk, we’ll tackle the challenge, as web and mobile app developers and designers, of creating usable and accessible experiences for all on both platforms with a single codebase.
