The Migrant Table: Asian Body Work, Mutual Aid, and Community Care
The Migrant Table workshop at AAAS is an extension of Whores Feast, a gathering of NYC based organizers working on the front lines of the decriminalization and labor rights advocacy for the most marginalized sex workers. The feast is an assemblage of celebration and resilience, joy and anger. Most of all, it is an offering of nourishment to activists whose identities and work are in constant battle with state oppression and systemic violence.
The Whores Feast (Nov 25) centered leading members of five Sex Worker organizations in NYC, and will travel to Hawaii during AAAS to include Sex Workers Outreach Project Hawai’i in the unique Migrant Table workshop at AAAS. Whores Feast was produced by Yin Q, Chong Gu, and Zacarius Gonzalez, organizers with Red Canary Song, a grassroots collective of migrant Asian massage and sex workers in NYC.
RCS members–including directly impacted massage workers, sex workers, and organizers–will share the 'Whores Feast' at AAAS through a Migrant Table workshop in dialogue with SWOP Hawai’i. Together, the seven panelists will discuss in roundtable format: 1) How are migrant Asian bodyworkers confronting new forms of US state violence, within the global systems of US militarism, white supremacy, and racial capitalism. 2) What new modes of mutual aid and community care have emerged in response?
