Keeping accounts for external users in Windows Active Directory is hard enough. Integrating with Azure Active Directory adds extra work. But having external business partner / consultant accounts hosted in Azure Active Directory authenticating in a on-premises SQL Server is just impossible. Until SQL Server 2022.
