Migrating you Power BI Semantic Model from Azure to Fabric: lessons from a real project

So, you've decided to move your Data Platform from Azure to Microsoft Fabric. Your corporate Semantic Model is hosted on an Azure Analysis Services server, and you need to move it to Fabric without introducing breaking changes for your report users.

In this session, we will see a complete Azure-to-Fabric Semantic Model migration. We will see the prerequisites and how the native Migration Tool in Fabric works, with an end-to-end demo of the operation. We will learn what "rebinding" and "server redirection" are. We will also see how to use the Semantic Link Python library available in Fabric to build alternative ways of rebinding your reports to the correct semantic model.

This session is built on top of a real experience in migrating a semantic model from Azure to Fabric, in the context of a company that had a centralized model in AAS and tons of reports in Power BI workspaces.

After this session you will have a much clearer view on how to approach a migration project for your Semantic Models, what works natively and what doesn't when using the Fabric Migration tool, and what to be careful about in order to avoid impacts on your users activity.

Basic knowledge of what is a Power BI semantic model and what are Azure and Fabric required.
