The Cost & Carbon of AI on Kubernetes: A Practitioner’s Playbook
Running AI at scale has an invisible footprint: both in cost and carbon. This session quantifies them—and shows how to reduce both without compromising performance. We’ll explore GPU scheduling efficiency, workload bin-packing, autoscaling strategies, and real-time CO₂e estimation using OpenTelemetry + FinOps data. You’ll see how a few configuration tweaks in Kubernetes (topology-aware scheduling, node affinity, mixed GPU pools) can yield double-digit savings in power and euros. We’ll finish with an open-source toolkit to track emissions per request and integrate sustainability directly into your CI/CD pipelines.
The Next Decade of Cloud Native Computing will be about Sustainability
As we close the first decade of cloud native, it’s time to reflect on where we’re headed—both as a community and a society. We have the power to shape a more sustainable future. This talk explores how the cloud native ecosystem can lead on environmental and operational sustainability through smarter architecture, efficient resource use, and green software principles. We’ll highlight CNCF TAG Environmental Sustainability projects, share ways to reduce carbon footprints, and show how to drive green innovation. It’s time to build systems that are not only powerful—but also planet-friendly.
The Periodic Table of Cloud Native
In my previous career as a chemist, I gained a profound appreciation for the intricate harmony of nature's elements. Today, I invite you on a captivating journey through the realms of elements, projects, communities, and molecules. With a blend of scientific insight, technological flair, and unbridled passion, I aim to ignite an engaging and thought-provoking discourse on the ever-evolving landscape of the cloud native ecosystem and its future trajectory.
The Stoic Engineer: how a 2300 years old philosophy can help you thrive in your job
Born in Athens around 300 BCE, Stoicism is a practical philosophy for life and a tool to navigate the modern world and its idiosyncrasies. I will, as an humble prokopton (one on the path to discovery) share my learnings and how I applied them to my daily job as a software engineer, how it helped me stay centred and steadfast during the inevitable crisis in life and on the job.
The Way of Cloud Native AI
We will delve into the magic world of LLM training and inference using cloud native and open source tooling; we will explore how the current GenAI revolution benefits from open standards, programmable infrastructure and the powerful paradigms of cloud native. We will expouse practical knowledge on how and why running AI/ML workloads on Kubernetes and end up with a short demo.
