Preparing Global Graduates at HBCUs: Building a Campus-Wide Culture of International Engagement

Historically Black Colleges and Universities have long prepared leaders capable of addressing local and global challenges. Yet many institutions continue to face barriers to expanding study abroad, international partnerships, global curriculum, and career pathways in international affairs.

This interactive roundtable will bring together faculty, staff, senior administrators, and international education professionals to explore practical, scalable approaches for embedding global engagement throughout the student experience.

Drawing from experience leading international development programs in more than 30 countries, serving as USAID Development Diplomat in Residence at Morehouse College, and developing the Global HEART framework for global citizenship, participants will discuss strategies for:

Expanding access to study abroad and virtual exchange
Building international partnerships despite limited resources
Preparing students for global careers
Integrating global competencies across disciplines
Leveraging alumni, government, nonprofit, and private-sector partnerships
Developing institution-wide cultures of international engagement

Rather than a formal presentation, this session is designed as a collaborative conversation where participants share successful practices, identify common challenges, and leave with actionable ideas and new professional connections.
