The Impact of Organizational Culture on Architecture Decisions
Architecture is the art of dissecting complexity. Architects are naturally drawn to structure and process: abstract the problem, select a viewpoint, model the system, analyze trade-offs, and advise on the most suitable decision. But in practice, the final decision is often made by those accountable for outcomes, not always by those closest to design.
As a result, architecture decisions are rarely technical and more often shaped by cultural negotiations.
In this talk, we’ll explore how different organizational cultures influence architecture modeling and decision making. Then, we’ll examine the role of architects in navigating these dynamics and, finally, share practical heuristics to assess the organizational landscape, identify hidden constraints, and deliver context-aware architecture recommendations.
