Defence against the dark arts - how to avoid becoming Putin's next useful idiot.
In 2020, a Norwegian senior engineer and DNV employee was arrested at a restaurant in Oslo while having dinner with a Russian intelligence officer. During the dinner, a large sum of money, documents on a USB stick and coded messages in a notebook switched hands. The engineer later claimed that he never realized the Russian was a spy, and that he was being groomed into passing on secrets. How is this possible? We take a closer look at why we, as IT professionals, may be of interest to foreign intelligence services, and which methods intelligence officers use to achieve their goals.
