Operators in Action: Apache Kafka on Kubernetes
Running and maintaining Apache Kafka on bare metals is possible, but it lacks the automation and flexibility of cloud-native deployments, even as Apache Kafka clusters are expected to handle massive traffic and scale on demand. Deploying the Apache Kafka environment to Kubernetes helps it to strengthen the infrastructure, but it comes with a price: complexity. Apache Kafka is not a single program that you can wrap in a container and expect it to run reliably, you need to deal with a lot of different components that make it work seamlessly. That’s why Strimzi has been developed. With the help of different operators and CRDs, Strimzi provides mechanisms to deploy and maintain Apache Kafka clusters on Kubernetes with ease. This is an intermediate-level talk with live demos of Strimzi operators in action. Attendees will leave with practical understanding of the Strimzi ecosystem, learning how its operators automate the lifecycle of Kafka clusters, clients, and related resources on Kubernetes.
