From "Commit" to "Career": Framework to bridge New Talent with Open Source Careers

2023 saw the largest number of first-time open source contributors on GitHub. We are observing push for learning open source practices and technologies as a step to open gateways to opportunities for students and independent learners. Our session aims to allow organizations chart the framework to spot great talent in the pool of open source contributors while encouraging healthy feedback cycle for others to learn, doing all this with minimal cost.

In this talk, the speakers will share their:

- Learnings from running and building a global open source internship pipeline and it’s impact on open source projects and contributors involved.
- Maintaining a collaborative environment while encouraging recognition for excellent contributors
- All at minimal resources and cost!

The audience will leave the session with

- Framework to implement in organization to support hiring and recognizing talent from the large sea of open source communities
- Learnings from success stories of students who landed internships with Open Source organizations
- Understanding the margin between competency and collaboration when a selection process is put in place in open source projects.
