A Value Stream Blueprint - The balance between effectiveness, efficiency and predictability
A value stream is an organisational construct representing a hypothesis:
"By aligning people and processes to work together, we maximise our ability to execute on our product strategies and deliver value to our customers."
Your organisation has a structure for doing this today. People make decisions about work daily, if not more often. Work flows from its arrival point to its departure point and value delivered.
A challenge that I often see with existing structures is that they only represent a small part of the whole. This often leads to a local optimisation and has staff running around trying to make sense of things.
In this talk I'll walk through the elements that we use in our value streams for example:
Establish the foundation for the value stream
Create the shape of the value stream
Provide accessibility to the value streams work
Measurement design which provides everyone the information they need
I'll spend time sharing the successes and failures we've had. I'll also share some models that we've found useful while establishing value streams.
Learning Outcomes:
Use functional organisational design to guide the entire concept-to-delivery flow of value.
Create an environment of rapid decision making and cross-functionality
Create a definition of workflow showing all aspects of how potential value flows
Setting service level expectations
Crafting a meeting structure that is POWERful
The "glass box" principle of transparency: measurement design
