AI in Education: Empowering Students to become the Teacher
/Imagine a future where AI transforms knowledge work in higher education, and universities just don’t get it.
/Imagine a future where AI transforms knowledge work in higher education, and universities embrace this change.
We have a clear preference, which is achievable, not by replacing educators, but by enhancing their ability to deliver high-quality, personalized learning experiences. Through the KI-Tutor:innen Bayern program, we took a significant step toward this vision. This initiative brought together 50 student-professor partnerships across Bavarian institutions of higher education to explore how AI can be harnessed to improve courses and streamline academic workflows.
Participants in the program received training in pedagogy and practical AI applications, equipping them with the skills to address real-world academic challenges. In this session, we’ll share how the program was designed and implemented, the challenges we faced—such as coordinating stakeholders and managing diverse projects—and how we overcame them. We’ll also highlight the program’s scalability, provide actionable advice for replicating this model at other institutions, and present success stories, which include:
• A blueprint for professor-student contracts to clarify AI usage in classrooms.
• A public repository of reusable, didactic prompts for educators.
• An optimization of research workflow by using AI for literature reviews and streamlining code generation for data analysis.
Join us to discover how this initiative created "lighthouses" of AI knowledge—well-trained individuals who now serve as ambassadors for AI-driven innovation in education—and how such efforts can empower educators and improve student outcomes, one course at a time.
