In 2022, I built my first demo for a pitch using ChatGPT assistance and in 2024 I got my AI offline (locally hosted) using Ollama and Gemma models. With the ability to locally host an AI assistant my learning improved and at the click of the button I can access information at my convinience. In Zimbabwe, internet is expensive and over 70% of the people live on hand-to-mouth basis. Study Buddy, my personal side project, uses Edge AI and Agentic AI to deliver high quality educational experiences to improve student perfomance in areas where the pass rate for basic education is below 40%. The pillars of the design include human-centricity, personalised and customised experiences and recommendations, access and affordability, and AI agents for ensuring quality in delivery of material, assessments and report cards. This talk will look into how the future of AI will rely on a people-first approach and possible impact of AI will be more than just generating cute cat photos.
