Bring Punk Rock Back to Web Design
The punk rock scene of the 70s and 80s pushed the design world forward in ways that could only have come from a non-conformist movement. Flyers, ‘zines and album art were challenging, complex, sometimes hideous and always artistic.
In the realm of rectangles that has been the modern web, we haven't had much chance to play in this style. We could very easily blame this on the technology. Up until a few years ago, many of the challenging layouts were so difficult on the web that it wasn’t worth pursuing. With a whole host of new CSS and JavaScript, many things that used to be impossible are easy. So where are the new and challenging designs?
We’ve fallen in love with clean, crisp designs and lost sight of challenging our users with unique and creative design work. We seek inspiration for web design FROM web design. How can we break our industry out of this rut?
