Building Your First Clusterless Availability Group On Metal, VMs, Cloud, Or All Three!

Building your first availability group can seem like a daunting task. Terms such as “Windows Server Failover Cluster”, “quorum”, “file share witnesses”, and “database containment” weren’t taught to us in DBA school. Enter SQL Server 2017+. We can now put those scary terms aside and create availability groups that don’t have to reside on a cluster.

In this talk, we’ll teach you how to create your first availability group without having to buy your server admins* a meal. We’ll start by teaching you how to “talk the talk” of availability groups. Once we set the foundation, a straightforward UI demo will walk through the steps needed to create your first availability group. After the databases are flowing, we’ll discuss how on-prem/bare metal, virtual/VM, and cloud offerings can all be leveraged to support your hybrid deployment.

Come join us for a fun, light-hearted, and welcoming approach to the world of high availability/disaster recovery on SQL Server!

*Disclaimer: you might enjoy this session so much that you might want to make good friends with your server admins.
