Introduction to Data Visualization

Data visualization has been used over the years to feed entire civilizations, identify how to slow the spread of diseases, and even to create maps of new land. Over the centuries data visualization has become easier to produce with the advancement of technology. While data visualization is no longer drawn by hand, some of the same methods to properly tell a story through data visualization still apply today.
This presentation will focus on the history, foundations, and basics of data visualization. As technology continues to become more intelligent and the amount of data collected continues to increase, data visualization becomes more pivotal. Composing excellent visualizations from this data to tell a story is pertinent to advance the world. The goal of this presentation is to dive into the history of data visualization, identifying how the brain perceives visuals , understand how to prepare data for a story, and putting it all together to create visuals that truly tell useful stories.
