Beyond the Score: How AI can Improve a Real-World Supplier Evaluation Process

How reliably does a supplier deliver? Do confirmed and actual delivery dates match? How are quality, price stability, documentation, and service developing? In many organizations, the required information is already available across purchase orders, product receipts, quality records, and other transactions in Dynamics 365. Nevertheless, supplier evaluations are often performed manually, irregularly, or with individually maintained Excel workbooks.

In this session, I will demonstrate how Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, Power Apps, Power Automate, and artificial intelligence can be combined to create an end-to-end supplier evaluation process.

The process starts with flexible evaluation schemes. Organizations can define categories such as delivery reliability, schedule adherence, price stability, quality, documentation, and service, and supplement them with individual criteria and weightings. For each evaluation period, the relevant suppliers are selected and the required ERP data is provided automatically.

Power Automate calculates objectively measurable criteria directly from operational data. Company-specific rules, tolerance ranges, and exceptions can be taken into account. Criteria that cannot be derived entirely from system data can still be evaluated manually. The results are consolidated and weighted in a Power App and can, for example, be translated into an ABC classification.

Artificial intelligence can then interpret the results, summarize anomalies, and generate actionable recommendations. The outcome is therefore more than a score: it becomes an understandable foundation for supplier reviews, improvement measures, tenders, contract negotiations, and strategic procurement decisions.

This session is based on a solution developed with Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management, Power Apps, Power Automate, and artificial intelligence. All supplier, procurement, and evaluation data used during the presentation will be anonymized or replaced with demonstration data.

This is not a sales presentation. In addition to the capabilities, the session will address the solution’s requirements and limitations, including data quality, the definition of objective evaluation criteria, exception handling, explainability, and the role of human judgment.

Recommended duration: 45–60 minutes.
Target audience: Procurement and supply chain professionals, Dynamics 365 consultants, solution architects, and Power Platform professionals.
Level: Intermediate.
