Microservices without REST

As many organizations make their first moves to Microservices, they focus heavily on the micro and concentrate on breaking their applications up. They use familiar approaches to making these components communicate and cooperate, such as RPC, HTTP/REST and Web APIs. These solutions provide a number of new problems from service discovery and load balancing to long call chains and managing transactions.
Using alternative communication patterns based on Events and Message Oriented Middleware is not a brand new concept, but with modern message broker technology and cloud platforms, we can solve these microservices problems without trading them for new ones.
We will look at patterns that enable us to build fully asynchronous, event driven, transactional, microservices based systems, answering question such as: "How do we make them reliable?", "How do we manage transactions?" and "How do we move from our existing systems to these new approaches?"
